Working from home can be both a blessing and a curse. While some of us thrive at managing our daily routines and tasks remotely, some of us tend to slip up here and there. At the office, you may face challenges like your coworkers casually dropping by your desk to chat and make impromptu lunch plans, but at home, you face other uncertain distractions such as neighbors who suddenly have the urge to move furniture around, a dog that just won’t stop hassling you for a walk, and mostly yourself, who keeps falling into pits of unproductivity and procrastination.

Knowing each sign’s greatest pros and cons, here are some GREAT tips to tackle your possible home office distractions. While these tips are suggested for certain signs according to their personalities, they’re also general tips for just anybody working at home. Feel free to start implementing these tips into your own WFH routine!

The fire trio is infamous for short attention spans – they’re active people who just can’t help being easily stimulated by things around them. Essentially, they need to set up a designated workspace at home, whether it’s a particular side of the dining table, a specific corner of the sofa, or an actual desk to work on. Setting aside a separate space helps their minds isolate this area for work rather than leisure. If you only have your bed to work on, try rearranging it a little or simply sit on the side opposite to where you usually sleep.

What better way to designate a space for work than with some black-and-white rules? If constantly checking your phone is a problem you face, simply make a no-phone rule and keep your device as far away as possible. This way, you’ll have to leave your workspace in order to use your phone. It can be challenging to keep up with all your tasks at home, as it’s not necessarily an environment that generates a sense of urgency. Creating a daily to-do list helps you get into the mindset that these tasks MUST be completed before the end of the day. Just like any other workplace, if you don’t finish, you can’t leave.

At first, working from home will seem like no issue for the organized earth signs. But gradually, they’ll realize they can get so blinded and occupied by work that they might even neglect their health. Take this chance to work in the sunlight (if there’s any)! Absorb all the Vitamin D you need by working next to windows, or utilize an outdoor space such as a garden or balcony. But please, don’t forget about sunscreen!

Having a work-specific soundtrack is a great way to put your mind into work mode. If you have a playlist that you usually listen to in the office, put it on at home to emulate the working environment you’re familiar with. If it’s white noise and background chatter that you’re used to, having the TV on may help you focus.

The biggest problem earth signs may encounter at home is how to ease in and out of work. Don’t be hard on yourself if you feel you’re not giving your 100% and being the most productive at 9 in the morning. Mornings can start with slower and less intensive tasks, such as going through your email and making a list of daily tasks. Once you’ve built up momentum, you’ll be cranking through all your work in no time! When your workday is almost over, ease out slowly instead of ending with a sudden halt. This process will help you gradually unwind for post-work leisure, and it also helps to prevent you from overworking!

Air signs are a witty, creative and cerebral bunch. The truth is their minds can be overstimulated by a lot of ideas, making them very easily distracted. Aside from getting their brains into work mode, the hardest part of working from home is sticking to a regular morning routine. The transition from your bed to your desk can seem a lot more sluggish than getting up and preparing for your commute to work. The idea is to recreate that sense of “getting ready” at home. Wake up as usual, brew your coffee, do your morning stretch and get dressed. One of the biggest pros of working from home may be the comfort of your PJs, but if they’re so comfy that it’s difficult for you to concentrate, perhaps switching to a more work-appropriate outfit will help.

Knowing air signs’ social abilities, their main distractions can also come from family, roommates and pets. If you’re at home, they’ll constantly try to talk to you, despite knowing very well that you’re working. Small conversations here and there can really throw off your momentum, so it’s best to ignore them while you work. If you’re working in a separate room, simply put up a “Do Not Disturb” sign. If you have to work in a communal space, such as the kitchen or the living room, wearing a pair of headphones can signal that you need to focus. Make this a rule so that the people around you will remember not to disturb you.

Home office for water signs may seem like a dream come true at first, but when reality starts getting to them, they may find themselves in a stressed and confused state. Water signs are such homebodies, and fighting the temptation to wake up late or quickly pop back to bed for an afternoon power nap can really disturb their working patterns. Do yourself a favor and stick to some real working hours! This can help you get used to a healthy working schedule, increase your productivity, and most importantly, set work and personal lives apart.
