For Women’s History Month, we’re going to be celebrating women in the beauty industry! Why, you may ask? Well, according to LedBetter’s Gender Equality Index, only 29% of leadership roles in the beauty industry are helmed by women, even though women outspend men in the market.
It’s important to support women in the beauty industry and celebrate their success, because an empowered woman empowers other women. Without further ado, here are ten K-Beauty makeup and skin care brands that you probably didn’t know are owned by women!
In 2018, Kim So-hee was lauded as one of Asia’s Latest Star Businesswomen in Forbes Asia‘s The Emergent 25 list, and it’s no wonder why! She started 3CE (3 CONCEPT EYES) way back in 2009, and over a decade later, it’s a powerhouse in the cosmetic industry. The Korean brand is known for its vibrant and highly pigmented products with colors that are not for the faint of heart. From neon greens to hot oranges, 3CE shuns basic sheer shades in favor of the bright and bold!
Ever wonder how some products came to be? Well, the Lip & Eye Micellar Cleanser was born from a mother’s love. TROIAREUKE’s CEO was worried that her daughter was aggravating her skin when removing makeup and therefore speeding up the wrinkling process. Formulated to be uber gentle, the cleanser thoroughly removes even the most stubborn makeup without irritating skin. How heartwarming is that?
SOME BY MI’s products are formulated with mild and skin-friendly ingredients and free from harmful chemicals such as colorants and parabens. The Korean skin care brand is especially known for its highly efficacious AHA, BHA, PHA 30 Days Miracle Series. All of the products in the range are specially formulated for sensitive and acne-prone skin. Click here for the full review!
We all know and love Taeri Taeri from her modeling work for magazines and brands like Chuu, but did you know she recently created her very own beauty brand? CILY (Color Imagine Love Yourself) is a cosmetic brand boasting colors as sweet and vibrant as the model herself. Launched just last year, CILY has amassed a huge fan base already and it’s no surprise. Not only do the products have cute packaging but they are incredibly pigmented as well. I personally love the Eye On Me eye shadows, which have a silky formula that blends easily over lids!
Eugene Oh is the founder of THE PURE LOTUS, a natural skin care brand from Jeju Island. The brand’s products are formulated with extracts from white lotus grown in a pond at the thousand-year-old Beophwasa temple. What’s even more amazing is that the woman behind the traditional paintings on the packaging is the founder’s very own mother, artist Kang Myeong-sun! When mother and daughter come together, it’s a sure win-win. We #stan a mother-daughter duo!
Peach C was founded by Korean model and blogger Ha Neul, who is often seen in the brand’s campaigns. The recently launched cosmetic brand boasts fresh, bright and easy-to-wear shades. Ha Neul is a true renaissance woman, running Peach C and also eponymous lingerie brand Haneul Haneul. What a boss babe!
Those that shop at YesStyle are definitely no strangers to iUNIK, as the brand has garnered over 97% customer satisfaction! The hypoallergenic brand has a streamlined skin care line with minimal ingredients formulated for every skin type from oily to dry.
Owned by former T-ara member Hyomin, this new brand was launched just last year! The K-pop star obviously knows her way around makeup and skin care, and she shares her must-have items with us mere mortals through her brand MINITT. Hyomin likes to keep her makeup “simple yet intense,” opting for highly pigmented essentials that are easy to use like the Lip-Tail Pencil!
Launched in 2014, this Korean brand offers an array of skin care and makeup products. If you’re looking for exfoliating products, RiRe is known for having a wide variety. In fact, RiRe’s Style Black Head Brush Cleanser has been a YesStyle bestseller since 2018!
VYVYD studio is a makeup brand that I truly ADORE! Although this brand is still new, it boasts a wide range of colors that have never been seen before in the K-Beauty market, from moody deep blue to electrifying purple. The aptly named shades are all inspired by different music genres. This brand caters to the very #extra folks – plus it’s vegan and cruelty-free!
